Kamben Association is a registered Senegalese Community Based Organisation (N.I.N.E.A. 006616520) based in Dar Salam village, at the main entrance to Niokolo-Koba National Park. The group has a diverse membership including local schoolteachers, members of local women’s groups, tourist guides, the village chief, and young people. The word Kamben comes from the Mandinka language. It means “we are together”, indicating the importance of people working in harmony with each other and with the environment they live in. In the partnership with Niokolo Network, Kamben plays the role of project implementer. As a grass roots organisation, Kamben is perfectly placed to develop and deliver projects that address locally identified issues in a culturally sensitive way.
